Welcome to Indaba 2016

The Mpumalanga Wetland Forum is delighted to invite you to the National Wetlands Indaba 2016 at the Forever Resort Swadini near Hoedspruit in the beautiful Mpumalanga Province of South Africa.

The Indaba is a cross-disciplinary gathering of practitioners involved in the conservation and sustainable utilization of South Africa's wetland resources. These include scientists, decision-makers, researchers, conservationists and educators hailing from various organisations and Government departments.

The 2016 Indaba will be held at the Swadini Forever Resort, from the 25th to the 28th of October 2016. Delegates are expected to arrive on the morning of Tuesday the 25th of October. Please diarise these dates.

The theme for the 2016 National Wetlands Indaba is; "Forward together for the Sustainability of Our Wetlands" - as adopted from the Ramsar theme for 2016.

In line with this theme, the Indaba would like to focus on the benefits that can be derived from wetlands from both the direct, positive effects on human health of maintaining healthy wetlands - such as the provision of food, clean water, pharmaceutical products, etc. - and the direct negative effects of mismanaging wetlands that result in the impairment of our health and even the loss of life - such as through the effects of water-related diseases, burning peatlands, floods, and water pollution.

We look forward to your attendance and enthusiastic participation.
Best wishes,
Hannes Marais
